Career test: Apt (AI career test)

Not sure what kind of work fits you? Apt is an online quiz that uses AI to suggest career paths based on your answers. Here’s what it is, what it costs, and how to use it alongside the free job help you already have.

Read this first: full results cost money. You can start Apt’s quiz for free, but seeing your full results and using its tools requires a paid subscription that renews automatically. If money is tight, try the free government career quiz below first. Blue Waters Recovery Foundation is not affiliated with Apt AI, Inc. and does not run this service. Details below were checked on Apt’s website in October 2026 and can change.

What it is

The basics

  • Name: Apt – AI Career Test & Career Mentor
  • Made by: Apt AI, Inc. (Stamford, Connecticut)
  • Where: a website, tryapt.ai. Works in the web browser on your phone or computer.
  • The quiz: mostly multiple-choice questions about your personality, preferences, goals, and experiences. Apt says it takes about 10–20 minutes, and there’s no timer.
  • Age: Apt’s terms say you must be 18 or older.

Who it can help

Adults who are starting over and want ideas for what to try next: people who aren’t sure what they’re good at, are coming back to work after time away, or want to change fields.

According to Apt, a paid membership includes career recommendations, personality insights, an AI career mentor you can chat with, a résumé builder, a job board, and interview practice.

A quiz can’t know your whole story. Treat the results as ideas to explore, not a final answer.

Honest cost notes

  • Free to start: you can take the quiz without paying.
  • Paid to unlock: full results and tools need a subscription. Apt’s website says membership plans start at $19.99 per month. The exact price shows on the checkout screen, so read it carefully before you pay.
  • It renews automatically (for example, every month or every year) until you cancel. You can cancel in your account settings or by emailing support@tryapt.ai.
  • Refunds are unlikely. Apt’s policy says purchases are non-refundable unless the main features don’t work. Not liking the results, or forgetting to cancel, does not count.
  • Free trials: if one is offered, Apt may ask for your card first and charge it automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel.
Before you enter a card: make sure the cost fits your budget, write down the date it renews, and set a phone reminder to cancel a few days before if you don’t want to keep it. You are never required to pay. You can close the page at any time.

Free option: O*NET Interest Profiler (My Next Move)

A free career-interest quiz from the U.S. Department of Labor’s O*NET program. Answer short questions about work activities you like or dislike, then browse matching careers, including the training each one needs and what it pays. Spanish version available (Mi Próximo Paso).

How to get started

  1. Find a quiet 20 minutes and a phone or computer with internet. Wi-Fi helps if your data plan is limited.
  2. Open your web browser (Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android) and go to tryapt.ai, or tap a button on this page.
  3. Tap “Take the career test.”
  4. Answer honestly. There are no right or wrong answers, and there’s no timer.
  5. Expect to be asked for an email address (or to sign in with Google). Use an email you actually check.
  6. Read the price screen slowly. Decide whether to pay, or stop there and use the free option above.
  7. Optional: to keep it on your home screen like an app, tap Share → “Add to Home Screen” in Safari, or the ⋮ menu → “Add to Home screen” in Chrome.
